   If you choose the dimensionless version then the distances should be in
   planetary radii. The characteristic accel will be in units of the
   gravitational acceleration at 1 planetary radius.

   The optimal rate (minimum sail acceleration) is sqrt(1/r^3), where r
   is sqrt(rho^2 + z^2).
   Either rho or z may be a vector.
